Overview
The Driver Supervisor (DS) Certification Program is a post-licensing initiative for the heavy vehicle sector. Funded by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator under the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI), the program has been developed by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia (CILTA).
This certification is designed for experienced drivers, trainers, and mentors who are responsible for supporting and assessing licensed heavy vehicle drivers beyond initial licensing.
A Driver Supervisor plays a key role in mentoring and assessing licensed heavy vehicle drivers in real operational environments. To perform this role, participants must complete a specialist microcredential focused on essential knowledge and assessment competencies.
The certification program includes either:
- Ten structured learning modules forming the CILTA Driver Supervisor microcredential, or
- Four competency‑based modules aligned with relevant VET skill sets.
Positioned as a post‑licensing microcredential, the program provides an industry‑recognised pathway for experienced driver mentors to gain formal certification as a Driver Supervisor.
This course is essential for applicants seeking to become a Certified Driver Supervisor and is available once an applicant has been successfully approved as a Driver Supervisor. Learn more about becoming a Certified Driver Supervisor here.
